This week's wng went in a completely different direction from the others. I had already started by doing it on damp hair (as stated in my previous post) and I loved what that did to my hair. So why not continue to venture down the path of the unknown?
My nighttime routine for my wngs consisted of me doing small pineapples all over my head: 1 in the back, 1 in the crown, 1on other side, and the last in the top/front. This kept my coils intact and helped my wng last longer. The one drawback was when I took the pineapples out, my hair was still be in those sections and it would be hard to shape my hair (see the Style Challenge post). I would have to spritz with water and turn my hair near white to shape it properly. Not good when you're trying to get out the door in the morning for work.
Well, why not eliminate the pineapples?
The main reason why I do the pineapples is because my hair is so coily and shrunken. If I didn't provide some type of order/structure with my hair in this state, I would wake up with coils going every way possible. I was able to get away with it one day the previous wng week only because I was tired and didn't feel like pineappling my hair. It was on its last days so I wasn't worried about saving the style. But how would it work on a fresh style?
After I did my ridiculous hair drying routine, I took a look in the mirror and said to myself, "I hope this works." I placed my bonnet on my head and went to sleep.
The next day, I took my bonnet off and immediately took a look at which why my coils were laying. Still laying down. I did spritz my hair lightly to give shape. Day 2 was good. Day 3 would be the test. Could it do it consistently.
The shocker! Day 3-4, I didn't have to spritz my hair at all. As a matter of fact, I was able to shape my hair with some oil (which is a plus) and my coils were laying down. Okay, this could work. My wng is lasting a good while and I'm pleasantly surprised that I was able to keep my shape (even though I put it in a puff 2 of the days).
I think I will hold off on pineappling my hair until my hair gets longer. I made it through 5 days with this wng intact the entire time. However, I did rinse most of the product out of my hair the morning for the 4th day because the Eco styler was flaking and the 5th day, the humidity made my hair undefined and even more shrunken.
Day 6 and 7, I wore my hair in a stretched puff that I did by putting my hair in chunky twists. So here we are on day 8, wash day. I think I put my hair through a lot this week or maybe not. But at least I did learned from this.... I think!
